Conferences & Trainings

CFCC develops statewide, regional, and local court educational programs to fulfill continuing education requirements mandated by statutes, court rules, and professional licensing. Many events bring together multidisciplinary audiences to develop a systemic perspective on common issues. Other programs are designed specifically for judicial officers, court administrators, family court services staff, family law facilitators, legal service providers, or other professionals serving families, children, self-represented family law litigants, and collaborative justice court programs. The Pathways to Justice Conference is a statewide conference convened every three years by the State Bar of California. This year, the conference is combined with the Judicial Council Center for Families, Children & the Courts’ Self-Help Conference. The conference (PJSH2019) is also in partnership with the Legal Aid Association of California and is being held at the Ronald M. George State Building.

PJSH2019 is California’s only statewide legal services and self-help conference that brings together legal services organizations, pro bono organizations, court-based programs, tribal courts; private law firm attorneys; law school faculty and pro bono administrators; law students; court interpreters; and community partners. It is an opportunity to come together for two days of substantive trainings with an additional pre-conference day with half-day courses on Disaster Preparedness and Conducting a Court Self-Help Center Cost-Benefit Analysis.

Improving Permanency & Inclusion for Our Youth

These regional trainings bring together judicial officers, court professionals, social workers, attorneys, probation officers, educators and others working with families and children coming to court. The trainings are funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and other agencies. The October 2014 training is the result of a collaborative effort between the Center for Families, Children & the Courts and the California Bay Area Academy.

Day One: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Day one topics to include an overview of current legal information related to extended foster care and non minor dependents, decision making, concurrent planning, and permanency.

Day Two: 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Day two topics to focus on system competency around working with LGBTQ youth. Protective factors, standards, guidelines, and effective practices are among the topics that will be covered, in addition to a special presentation of the award winning documentary "Valentine Road."
