The Judicial Council of California wants you to have what you need with our comprehensive and cost effective medical and attractive retirement and leave benefits. We offer a rewarding career with a meaningful work-life balance. Benefits are effective the first day of the month following your date of hire. Most of the benefits offered are coordinated though the state of California.
State employees of the California judicial branch may select from a broad package of benefits to best meet individual needs.
- Medical: The State of California offers its employees and their dependents a wide variety of health plans, including HMO's and PPO's. CalPERS is the largest purchaser of public employee health benefits in California offering active employees and retirees one or more types of health plans.
- Dental: The State offers its employees and their dependents a choice among several prepaid dental plans and an indemnity dental plan such as Delta Dental, SafeGuard and others.
- Vision Care: The State provides a fully paid vision care program through Vision Service Plan.
- Leave: Employees may choose between two leave plans which may be able to create a flexible schedule that fits the demands of your life. Both plans allow for an increase in accruals based on years of experience with the State of California.
- Holidays: Employees receive 13 paid holidays per year, which includes one personal holiday.
- Retirement Plan: You’ll start earning a retirement plan after you’ve worked long enough to be eligible (usually five years). Your savings will grow every year you keep working for the state. When you retire, you’ll receive a monthly payment from those savings. View Retirement plan through CalPERS.
- 401K and 457 deferred compensation plans: These plans allow fulltime, regular employees to build a retirement savings account using automatic payroll deductions that go into investments you select from the Savings Plus portfolio. Employees are eligible to enroll in both 401(K) and 457 plans.
- Life insurance: All employees receive a fully employer-paid $50,000 life insurance policy.
- Transit pass subsidy: A transit subsidy is available to employees who are paid through the State Controller's Office to help offset some commuting costs to/from work. The current subsidy amount is limited to $130 per month.
- Pre-Tax Parking Program: For employees that plan to drive to work on a regular basis and pay for parking, a pre-tax parking program is available. It allows employees to deduct from their paycheck an amount which they can use to pay parking fees.
- Student Loan Forgiveness: For public service employees, some federal student loans can be forgiven after 120 payments. This could take as little as 10 years.

- Long-term Disability Plan: The State provides a voluntary insurance plan that provides income protection in the event than an employee becomes disabled.
- Group Legal Services Plan: The Group Legal Services Plan, administered by ARAG. North America, provides professional legal advisory services to employees.
- Long-term Care Program: The state offers an insurance plan that is available to employee, spouse, parents, parents-in-law, and/or siblings.
