Background
This new three-story, 61,000-square-foot courthouse is located across from the Fresno Convention Center and adjacent to the City of Fresno's proposed Old Armenian Town development.
The courthouse was constructed on a 1.25-acre site and includes landscaped areas and secured surface parking for 25 vehicles. This fully secured facility houses:
- Chambers for 11 justices; offices for attorneys, clerks, and administrative staff; a library; conference rooms; and a settlement conference suite; and
- Additional parking for 90 cars provided on a separate lot nearby.
The building's single courtroom is centrally located and bordered by landscaped courtyards, allowing natural light in and contributing to the building's energy efficiency, which exceed state requirements by 17 percent.
The Western Council of Construction Consumers (WCCC) awarded the Outstanding Achievement award to this project. The WCCC is the largest association of construction owners in the western United States. The members represent a total planned construction in excess of $100 billion. This was one of five projects to receive awards at the annual WCCC Project Awards ceremony on March 10, 2008.
