The Chief Justice directed the Information Technology Advisory Committee (ITAC) to report on the feasibility and resources necessary to pilot three technology innovations recommended by the Futures Commission: remote appearances for most noncriminal court proceedings; voice-to-text language interpretation services at court filing, service counters, and in self-help centers; and intelligent chat technology to provide self-help services. As a first step, workplans were developed to implement the recommendations.

Proposed action by email between meetings under rule 10.75(o), the ITAC Rules and Policy Subcommittee (RPS) will consider by email action whether to recommend circulating a rules proposal and a form proposal for public comment. Each proposal and their associated invitations to comment are attached. RPS previously reviewed the proposals at its January 22, 2018 meeting, directed revisions, and deferred action until RPS could review the revisions.

Proposed action by email between meetings under rule 10.75(o), the Information Technology Advisory Committee will consider by email action whether to approve the Joint Appellate Technology Subcommittee’s (JATS) suggestions for responding to the comments, including whether to add an Advisory Committee Comment to rule 8.46, as reflected in the draft comment chart and draft report to the Judicial Council; and approve JATS’ draft recommendation to the advisory committee regarding adoption of the proposal,

Joint Appellate Technology Subcommittee Meeting

Proposed action by email between meetings under rule 10.75(o) to consider approving an update to the 2023 Information Technology Advisory Committee Annual Agenda to include an item for the Advancing the Hybrid Courtroom Workstream to address the Minimum Standards for Courtroom Technology to Permit Remote Participation in Court Proceedings  as set forth in Senate Bill 133.
