The Chief Justice's commitment to improving civic learning and engagement in California is highlighted in this timeline.  On February 1, Chief Justice Guerrero announced the appointment of Administrative Presiding Justice Judith McConnell and Santa Clara County Superior Court Judges Julia Alloggiamento to lead the effort to inspire courts to adopt the initiative locally.

The Power of Democracy Civic Learning Initiative is supported by a statewide network of judges, educators, and organizations who strive to engage students in civics education inside the classroom and in the community. 

Civic Learning Award

The award program, co-sponsored by Chief Justice and California State Superintendent of Public Instruction, identifies models in public schools that engage youth in civics learning.

Judges in the Classroom

Judges in the Classroom connects California classrooms with judicial officers for lessons on topics including the constitution, rule of law, and role of the judicial branch. Submit your request for the 2023-2024 school year here
