State Senator Thomas J. Umberg is a California State Senator, representing District 34 which includes north central Orange County and Long Beach. He assumed office in 2018. His current term ends on December 7, 2024.

Senator Umberg is a retired U.S. Army Colonel, former federal criminal prosecutor, founding partner of Umberg/Zipser LLP, and former Deputy Drug Czar for President Bill Clinton. As a federal criminal prosecutor, Senator Umberg tried numerous white collar, civil rights, and gang cases. His background provided the expertise and passion to keep communities safe; as well as protect the rights of workers, immigrants, and women.

Senator Umberg also served three terms in the State Assembly, representing central Orange County.  During this time, he worked across party lines, authoring 76 laws.

He chairs the Senate Committee on Judiciary and serves on the following Senate Committees:  Senate Select Committee on the 2020 United States Census (Co-Chair), Senate Committee on Housing, and the Senate Committee on Transportation.
