Judge Tamara L. Wood was appointed by Governor Edmund G. “Jerry” Brown, Jr., in 2016 to the Superior Court of Shasta County, where she currently serves as the assistant presiding judge. She has presided over criminal, civil, and probate matters as well as numerous jury trials. Prior to her appointment to the bench, she worked as the court’s general counsel, supervising research attorneys and representing and advising the court in all aspects of judicial administration. Judge Wood began her legal career as a deputy district attorney and later transitioned into civil practice. She worked in civil litigation as a partner at the law firm Reiner, Simpson, Slaughter & Wood LLP, which specialized in personal injury and employment law.
Judge Wood is a mentor judge in the Small and Rural Court Judicial Mentorship Program. She previously served as chair of the Judicial Council’s Civil and Small Claims Advisory Committee and as a member of the committee’s Ad Hoc Committee on Civil Remote Appearance Rules and the Gender Identity and Judicial Council Forms Working Group. Judge Wood received a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Chico and a juris doctor degree from Cal Northern School of Law.
