The Judicial Council of California recommends amending Rule 10.630 to remove the requirement for trial courts to report reciprocal assignment orders to the Judicial Council, effective July 1, 2015. The rule defines a reciprocal assignment order as an order issued by the Chief Justice that permits judges in different counties to serve in each other's courts. The proposed amendment aims to eliminate an unnecessary reporting requirement and redirect court staff resources to more important functions. All three commenters agree with the proposal, citing the burden of reporting on already overburdened court staff. The amendment is expected to result in cost savings for the courts and have no negative operational impacts.
