Overview

The State of California, Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District in downtown Los Angeles, is accepting applications for a Custodian. The ideal applicants will possess a high degree of personal integrity. The incumbent will be assigned to the evening shift, from 4:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. and will perform janitorial and general building maintenance duties which include keeping assigned areas in a clean, neat, and orderly condition; performing minor building and equipment repair work; and performing other related tasks as assigned. 

Responsibilities

  • Sweeping, mopping, stripping, and waxing floors
  • Shampooing and vacuuming carpet
  • Dusting and polishing furniture
  • Emptying waste receptacles
  • Cleaning and sanitizing justices’ chambers, attorney and staff offices, conference rooms, and restrooms
  • Cleaning mirrors and glass
  • Defrosting and cleaning refrigerators
  • Moving and arranging furniture and equipment when requested
  • Wearing safety equipment as required
  • Working daytime hours when necessary

Qualifications

One year of experience performing janitorial and general maintenance work.

Licenses and Certificates

  • May require possession of a valid California driver’s license.

Desirable Qualifications: 

Knowledge of:

  • Methods, chemicals, disinfectants, and other materials used in janitorial work and routine building maintenance.
  • Safe operation of a variety of cleaning equipment and tools.
  • Basic office practices and procedures.

Ability to:

  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Safely operate a variety of cleaning equipment and tools.
  • Lift and move equipment, boxes, furniture, etc. weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Comply with health and safety codes.
  • Organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical deadlines.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
  • Clean and care for facilities and equipment.

Pay and Benefits

SALARY RANGE: $3,555 per month - $4,324 per month 

(Starting salary range will be between $3,555 to $3,911)

Please note due to statewide fiscal conditions, the posted salary range is subject to a temporary 3% reduction. In exchange for this reduction, judicial branch employees accrue an additional 5 hours of paid personal leave per month through June 30, 2027
