The summer program is open to all current college students or recent graduates. The program offers an intensive 11-week, full-time immersion program for students interested in assisting self-represented litigants. Participants provide 300 hours of service from June 2, 2014 -August 15, 2014. This position requires a minimum service commitment of 35 hours per week (7 - 7.5 hours a day Monday-Friday during normal business hours, depending on the service location). Application deadline is February 28, 2014.

Position Description

Similar to our academic year long program, JusticeCorps members enrolled in the summer program will be trained to provide legal information to self-represented litigants to assist them with resolving important legal matters. Members will be placed where needed in one of 11 service locations located throughout the County of Los Angeles. JusticeCorps members assist litigants by helping litigants prepare court paperwork, by making referrals, or through assistance at a legal information workshop. Members will receive training in a variety of areas to support and enhance the member’s service to the public as well as training that will support the member’s individual development.

Once members complete all program requirements, they are eligible to receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award in the sum of $1,175.

Application Process

Before you begin the application process, please note that you cannot save the application once you have started. There are several short answer questions which may require more time than you have available in one sitting. We strongly recommend that applicants review Sample Questions and prepare responses to the short answer questions in a separate word processing program before proceeding (responses prepared outside this form may be cut and pasted into this application).

Application review will begin the business day following the application deadline. Once all applications have gone through the paper screening process, the most qualified applicants will be invited to participate in an interview. If you have any questions regarding the summer program, contact Sheree Valdoria at sandaya@lasuperiorcourt.org.
