Supreme Court Calendar Session This Week in San Francisco

Live TV Broadcasts of Redevelopment Case and Brinker Employment Case

WHAT: The California Supreme Court will hear oral argument in 13 cases from November 8 to 10, 2011, in San Francisco. The cases include a challenge to the validity of recent legislation that changed the statutory framework of California redevelopment agencies (California Redevelopment Assn. v. Matosantos, S194861). That case will be argued from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2011.

Another closely watched case, Brinker Restaurant Corp. et al. v. Superior Court of San Diego, S166350, involves the duty of employers to provide meal and rest breaks to hourly employees. This case will be argued from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. tomorrow,Tuesday, November 8, 2011.

Both cases will be televised and webcast live by the California Channel, a statewide public affairs network. California Channel will also televise the two cases that follow the Brinker arguments on Tuesday morning.

COURT’S CALENDER: The court’s complete calendar with case summaries is on the California Courts web site. The court will issue a written opinion in each case to be argued within 90 days of oral argument.
